The Oil North Engineering (ONE) team have fast-tracked the commissioning of 32 high sour gas wells at Greater Taliah (GT) by using new piping material.

They expedited and completed the sourcing of an alternative steel alloy and carried out the conversion of piping to the original design with a minimal shutdown duration.

A waiver was secured for 18 months to use substitute material because the lead time for sourcing the preferred high specification nickel 825 alloy was too long.

Staff and contractors worked to a tight schedule of 11.5 days for each well, against the 21-day target to drastically reduce lost production.

The replacement activities started last August and were completed four months ahead of target without any Lost Time Injuries.

The achievement came after close collaboration between the off-plot delivery contractor Seeh Al Sarya (SAS) Engineering and third-party contractor Rouge Pipeline and Process Services for water flushing and de-oiling activities with high-pressure, skid-mounted water booster pumps and high-pressure nitrogen pumps.

The team also had to ensure the entire flowline from wells to the production station was kept free of hydrocarbons prior to any flange break because the GT wells flow with a hydrogen sulphide (H2S) content as high as 5,800 parts per million.

Besides the well pad piping, additional work was also carried out on the station on-plot inter-connecting spool removal and installation without any schedule impact.

The ONE team co-ordinated the activities with ongoing support from the Lekhwair Operations, Well Delivery and Sub-Surface teams, the Production Chemistry department, SAS, Rouge Pipeline, Rock international Engineering consultancy, and other vendors. The ONE team also kept tight control of costs by sourcing nitrogen through an existing contract.

North Well Delivery Team Lead Adam Al Mendhry said: “I’m pleased to work with such an energetic and outstanding team spirit, that resulted in a game change in well delivery projects, expanding the boundaries to deliver such complex sour projects in a timely and safe manner.

“This truly demonstrates the great collaborative teamwork towards one goal.”
